I find this a silly act that I do every once in a while when I look through a list of friends and have no idea how I know someone. A justified reason, I feel, especially since we so easily add people for one time occurances in hopes that fate will change but never put any effort to benefit this relationship. On the other hand, when someone you still talk...talked to is unfriended, the sting that comes with a back hand slap to the face lingers.
Today, I found out that I have been unfriended by a close friend and the sting is lingering, making it hard to sleep. When I write the justification, I feel even more childish. I was unfriended because I forgot to invite them to my birthday party. Yes, even though I'm almost 30, birthday party invites can make or break a friendship.
I'm quite sad about this. I feel it's extremely sheepish. Scratch that, let me be MORE honest. I feel annoyed. A 10 year friendship and in none of those years they notice I'm NOT the type of person to be intentionally forgetful? Validation of losing a 10 year friendship all through my inaction of clicking a box... Do you know how many tiny stupid boxes with tiny pictures you have to look through on those FB invites? For me it WAS 461. I'm still in shock that I lost my close friend to a misunderstanding that I apologized for. Honestly, it baffles me... for him to dwell on this... over something I find so trivial.
Anyhow, this brings up a new mantra that I've come to. I once had a life with quite a bit of ridiculous drama, situations similar to the above. After sharing stories enough times I realized I was rarely the instigator... I was, however, at fault for surrounding myself with dramatic people. Once that epiphany struck me, I let go of them and the drama has exponentially decreased. Campaigns would be impressed by these immediate results!
So to the plus side: As he predictably fit the former category(it was only a manner of time), I'm relieved that I'm losing out on possible future stress between us down the road.
P.S. That birthday was quite fun, I'm happy I got the invite :)
